I feel like I’m finally on the road to success. This week I received my first rejection from a potential literary agent. It’s a milestone that I knew I had to pass at some point, so I’m glad that it’s out of the way. Perhaps I’ll feel differently after the fiftieth rejection though….
Have you ever thought [...]

The Easter hols are flying by, and all I’ve got to show for the break from work is a massive red lump on my neck, together with numerous other identical wounds elsewhere, from a viscious afternoon of paintball. I’m in the middle of the third draft of my book, and the main development is that I’ve come up with a new title. [...]

I’ve not had chance to post much on here recently; Ofsted have been in, plus there’s been parents’ evenings and other stuff happening at school. Mrs Cooper is watching that rubbish new BBC ‘find a nobody to be in a West End show’ type programme, so I’m snatching a few minutes blog time whilst importing [...]

Walking through Hillsborough the other day, I noticed that a new coffee shop had opened up. After making a brief assessment of its potential, I decided that it probably wouldn’t rival Gracie’s, my ‘regular’ hangout (every couple of months counts as regular, surely?). One thing it does have going for it, though, is the fact [...]

Ah, my study. Cosy, familiar, and almost completely soundproof.
A moment ago I had to run downstairs to answer a cry of, ‘I’ve done a poo, Daddy!’, and left my steaming cup of freshly-ground coffee standing as the electric heater stirred into life. When I returned, the room smelled exactly like one of those healthy vegetarian [...]

How ridiculous is Postman Pat nowadays? He was never annoying when I was young. He delivered real letters. He wasn’t incompetent. And his most advanced piece of kit was his van. In every episode he answers his mobile with, ‘Special Delivery Service – Pat speaking’, and it’s always his boss, telling him to come and pick [...]

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been thinking about community (and not much about writing, apart from this….). Before Christmas, I picked up (and read…) a book called ‘Irresistible Revolution’, which is written by a guy who lives in a downtown area in America and who has set up a community that help each other [...]

So the idea of a blog is that I don’t think to much about what I’m going to write; I just go for it. So I’m going to try and finish this in less than 1o minutes. I apologise in advance for errors/pointlessness. I’ve got some stuff I’d like to tell you about, and I’ve [...]

Yo.
Leeds have just knocked Man Utd out of the FA cup. Why can’t Wednesday manage stuff like that? Actually, don’t answer. There are clearly many reasons why…..
Re the book – the first draft of Resurrection Men is complete, and has been/is being read by some willing volunteers (my mum read it in one sitting…..). They’ll [...]

A Cooper Christmas Carol
One snowy Christmas Eve, Ebenezer Cooper sat hunched over his laptop scrutinising the Primary Framework for Literacy. His two eldest children played happily on the carpet, lost in a game of ‘eye-poke’. In the kitchen, a flustered Mrs Cooper muttered something about the dishwasher not being loaded correctly as she continued her [...]
